Почта: the Post Office

What an adventure! I can't imagine that everyone gets this type of service, or has to go through this type of process, but we did. We wanted to mail some Christmas cards to the US. Cards here are not sold with an envelope. If you want to mail a card rather than just give it to someone, you must purchase the envelope from the post office. Yes, we did ask several people, and they all told us the same thing. So, off to the find a post office we did go. The main one here in Vlad is hidden in a side street with no sign telling passersby that it is hiding a post office. We passed it several times before finally exploring that little niche and discovering it. Actually, we followed a PO truck as it turned into the street. Sadly, the PO folks weren't at all customer-oriented, especially for non-Russian speaking folks like us. But right next door is a small business center, and they were very kind. And patient. No one spoke English, of course, but we eventually understood each other. The whole episode is a much longer version than I will enter here. But it was interesting to watch the kind lady pull out a bunch of massive books full of stamps of different denominations and stick bunches of various stamps onto our envelopes. And yes, we did have to buy the envelopes.
