I had seen pictures of this feast, but this was my first time participating in the preparation. We fed 140 hungry people between Sacrament Meeting and Elder Evans' fireside. We baked 14 cakes in our apartment for dessert (for Sunday and
for the missionary conference the next day), and they licked up every crumb. I asked if these open-faced sandwiches are typical Russian food. I was surprised when the ladies in black and white told me that they had never had this food until the Americans came, and that now it has become the staple (like funeral potatoes in America) at all LDS events that feature food. |
