We had no idea Sakhalinsk had a ski area!! The runs to this lovely little mountain begin right at the edge of town, and the state-of-the-art gondola and 6-person high-speed chairlift glide right over the top of new and ancient homes. The runs are brightly lit at night. The city street that leads to the ski hill is lined with lovely, bright street lights so that the street seems to just wind straight up into the night sky. Locals call it the "highway to heaven."
